Batik Beauty

Cathy made this rail fence using the best and most colorful batik fabrics she could find. It is so bright. It reminded me of a lazy day on the beach of a tropical island. I can almost taste the cold drink with the fruit and colorful little umbrella stuck in it. I found the perfect panto for this quilt. It is a Deb Geissler panto named Flamingo with Palm trees. There are waves, clouds, big palm tree and the coolest flamingo. The panto had clouds but no sun. I had seen a quilt by another quilter, bstucker, that had a cute little sun poking out of the clouds. Barb found the sun in the clouds in a Laura Lee Fritz Continuous Quilting design. The book has 250 little designs - I will be using some more of the goodies in that book.

The outer border is a dragonfly stencil. Some of my dragonflies look like they are on steroids. I also used a wave stencil inside the body of the quilt to stretch the pattern to fit the body. The back is a fresh bright blue batik. The batting is Soft & Bright. I used Superior thread Rainbows variegated poly in color Mediterranean on top and wound my own bobbins using the Mediterranean.

What a gorgeous quilt! I love the quilting you did. It certainly adds character to the finished quilt.

My life has changed in the last couple of years - some bumps, I retired from quilting, and then I moved to Texas. I'm anxious to see what new adventures await me in the next phase of my life.
