I am sick and tired of being sick and tired....

I know that I have not posted in a while. I have not been quilting as much as I would like due to some medical problems.

I have been plagued with a staph infection that has been the source of several problems. It lead to osteomylytis which is a bone infection. I had to have the middle toe of my right foot amputated in September. Middle toe, no big deal. I was up and around in no time, eager to let my customers know that I am still quilting. Then pneumonia just before Thanksgiving and again around Christmas. I was just puny. Too bad it didn't lead to some weight loss. Noooo, my doctor put me on prednisone which has some wretched side effects like increased appetite, disrupts sleep cycle and irritability. God bless my husband for sticking with me. Heck, I would have left me, if I had the chance.

Then in January, I had another problem and had to have the second toe on my right foot amputated. Bone infection again. That is when I was told that I had this staph infection and we needed to get it under control. My foot remained infected and swollen after the 2nd toe was removed. I had been on antibiotics for weeks and nothing was changing. So the doctors gave me a choice between IV antibiotics or shots. The idea of an IV line staying in my arm for a month was just too scary for me. I opted for the shots. My doctor gave me oral antibiotics plus I got a shot (in my rear end) of rocephine on Friday, Saturday, Monday. I was warned that I would be very sore but I rubbed it afterwards like I do after a flu shot. I had a bruise the size of a tennis ball but it was only sore when I laid down which made it hard to sleep. That IV antibiotic ideas was starting to look better and better. On Tuesday, still no change. So the doctor doubled the dose and I got a shot in each cheek. And on Wednesday, the foot looked a little better. It was not as red but still swollen. So I got two more shots that day.

The good news is on Thursday my foot was noticeably better but my back was a bit stiff. However, my back got much worse, My husband was fighting a cold off. Misery loves company. I finally had to see my doctor because I I could hardly walk. The doctor gave me prescriptions for a muscle relaxer and a pain pill every 4 hours. These pills makes me dopey (dopier, that is). I was sleeping in the recliner with a heating pad. How could it get worse?.... My husband gave me his cold. Who knew that you use your back muscles when you sneeze and cough. I just can't seem to catch a break here. I have not quilted in 11 days and my backlog is increasing. Okay, I'm done whining.

Linda, I'm feeling sorry for you. My hubby has been pathetic and puny for a while now but is hopefully on the up side. Hope the same for you.

Linda, are you feeling better? There's nothing worse than being sick and having it hang on for what seems like forever. Take care of yourself and get well. If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Oh No!! I haven't checked anyone's blog in quite a while (my little girl has been sick because of chronic ear infections and had tubes put it, then immediately afterwards got a staph infection that resulted in bullous impetigo--huge blisters--it was not fun!)

I am really sorry to hear about you losing another toe. That is crazy stuff!! I hope that you are on your way to mending. Your priority should be getting yourself well, quilting CAN wait.

I'm really sorry to hear about all the health problems you're having Linda. I didn't realize staph was so vicious. It certainly has been a bad year for flu, colds and assorted virus. They also seem to hang on for weeks, heck, even months. It sounds like the shots are finally working. I hope you feel better soon.

and your poor toes...i am so sorry you have been through so much

My life has changed in the last couple of years - some bumps, I retired from quilting, and then I moved to Texas. I'm anxious to see what new adventures await me in the next phase of my life.
