I seem to be doing a lot of "philanthropy" quilts these days. But when I heard
from the owner of the Crazy 9 Patch, I was excited about it. Martha mentioned that it was for the In His Steps program here in our town.
My mother did volunteer work with some of her church friends. They would collect food from local merchants and some church food banks and distribute this to the local needy. They needed a safe place close to town to meet with folks. The In His Steps men's home provided a place for them under a tree and they were made welcome at the IHS men's homes. My mother was 81 at the time and I was worried about her being out where she might fall or need a bathroom. The men at the house took such good care of her, she spoke very highly of them.
Plus, you have to appreciate the work they do. It is hard to start over. "In His Steps" Is a non-profit Christian recovery program that offers men and women with life controlling problems a supportive and loving environment.
So some of the church ladies were looking for a 'volunteer' to quilt this huge quilt; 90 x 109. It is a beauty without the quilting. Squares on a black background, it is quite striking. They plan to auction the quilt off and give the proceeds to In His Steps.
Update 21 Oct 2006
I used the Circle Lord spirals and circle maker. That's 220 spirals and circles or 220 starts and 220 stops. Oh, my. I hope it makes a ton of money for In His Steps.

What a stunning quilt. It is so simple, yet so powerful.
