Lace and roses

The weather report said that we were going to have a storm this weekend, so I lowered my
patio umbrella, locked the gates so they don't bang and said goodbye to my roses. They are in the perfect spot for sun but when we get winds, like storms or Santa Ana's, the winds seem to get caught in the inside corners of my house and blast thru taking rose petals and whatever it finds loose enough to take for a ride. So I cut a few roses for the window sill.
I thought I should get some photos of my garden before Mother Nature re-arranges the furniture.
Purple Passion flower and Moon Shadow and Black Knight Butterfly bushes are a month away from luring the hummingbirds and Gulf Frittilaria butterflies into the garden for a show. I have Queen Anne's Lace coming in again; it has coninued to self-seed from being planted 3 years ago. My white rock roses and San Diego red bouganvilleas have managed to evade the gophers for another spring. And there are drought-tolerant blue Ruellea, sometimes called willow-leafed Mexican petunias, shoe-horned in all over the property. Some of the day lilies are starting to show color. I lost all my Asiatic lilies to the critters last year. The red poppies are really putting on a show. My sweet peas, just got blue ones this year, are waning. But the real star of the show is the Hong Kong Orchid. I love the butterfly-shaped leaves. The blooms are abundant and quite fragrant.

I don't miss the santa ana winds : ) We lived in Ventura county (Moorpark) for many years and the winds always frightened me. Your flowers are lovely.

My life has changed in the last couple of years - some bumps, I retired from quilting, and then I moved to Texas. I'm anxious to see what new adventures await me in the next phase of my life.
